Efficient and modern control is essential for smart building technology in commercial properties. When a touch panel becomes outdated and no longer meets current requirements, it is time for a replacement. We show you how simple it is, as demonstrated by the example of a large market for food and non-food products near Ludwigshafen am Rhein. Here, a faulty Berker Master Control touch panel, identical to the MT701CT, was replaced with a PEAK Control 12 touchpanel.
Seamless integration
When the old Berker MT701CT in the market manager's office stopped functioning and could only be reset by turning it off and on again, a replacement device was needed. The new panel had to fit the existing flush-mounted box in a technical cabinet. Our replacement kit for installing the Control 12 is compatible with the three identical Berker touch panels—Master Control, MT701, and MT701CT. This made it the perfect solution for the panel upgrade in Ludwigshafen.
In this case, the old flush-mounted box was reused, and the panel was easily installed using the surface-mounted frame we provided. The KNX bus and the required 230 V power supply were already in place, and the ETS project was imported seamlessly, with addresses assigned accordingly.
The decision to choose our Control 12 was not based solely on its easy installation. Its advanced visualisation capabilities also played a key role. Sascha Koßmehl, a system integrator at Klemm & Hempel Elektro GmbH in Ludwigshafen, was immediately impressed by our YOUVI visualisation and its clearly structured user interface.
Optimising building control with YOUVI in the store manager's office
With the new panel and our intuitive visualisation, it is not only possible to control the general lighting in the store but also adjust the advertising and car park lighting based on dusk conditions using integrated timers in the logic module. The outdated ABB timers previously in use were no longer needed, as their functionality was seamlessly integrated into the visualisation system.
Another key requirement from the client was the display of fault notifications. Any alerts now appear in the visualisation, indicating when the facility technician or integrator needs to be contacted to respond and resolve the issue. The priority of these fault notifications is given to the cooling systems, as it is crucial not to interrupt the cold chain for the food products.
The user management system controls access rights to the panel, with only the facility technician having full usage rights. Thanks to these privileges and the panel's maintenance-free design, the technician is able to control and manage everything independently.
Smooth collaboration with PEAKnx and positive user feedback
For system integrator Koßmehl, this project marked a first collaboration with PEAKnx. Although he was familiar with us and the Control 12 from the last Light + Building trade fair, this was his first project working directly with PEAKnx. He particularly praised our technical support: As with most first-time projects, there were a few questions, but they were answered promptly. The feedback from the users of the Control 12 in the commercial property has also been consistently positive, with special emphasis on the intuitive operation and clearly structured displays. By choosing PEAKnx, an intelligent and modern control solution was found that meets the commercial requirements of this wholesale market.
