In normal desktop view, you must manually access the on-screen keyboard using the keyboard icon in the taskbar to type. If you want the keyboard to appear automatically when you type in a text box, simply switch to tablet mode. This can be found in the Windows Sidebar when you swipe inwards from the right side of the screen.
